Register Now: Free Ice Rink Retrofit Workshop & Expert Guidance

Are you planning an upgrade or retrofit for your local ice rink? Join this free one-day session at the SPRA Spring Training Symposium to make sure your investment is future-proof and cost-effective. Offered by the Climate Ready Infrastructure Service (CRIS) funded by the Government of Canada, this session brings participants on a crash course on optimizing ice rink retrofits, drawing on real world examples from projects in Saskatchewan. Each participant will also receive a follow up energy study on their project completed by a CRIS Roster Expert at no cost.

Who is Eligible:

Local Governments in Saskatchewan with populations of 30,000 or less that have an ice rink or arena retrofit planned or in progress can benefit from this program. To show that the project is a demonstrated priority for the local government or band council, it should be included in an official strategic document (e.g., capital plan, asset management plan, OCP) or have formal acknowledgement as a priority from a senior authority (e.g., Chief Administrative Officer, band council, housing board of directors).

Session Overview

Small and rural communities across Saskatchewan are facing similar challenges with aging arenas from rising energy costs and deferred maintenance to limited capital funding. Led by CRIS, this session brings participants on a crash course through ice rink retrofits, drawing on real world examples from retrofits in Saskatchewan. Attendees will gain insight into how early technical support and project scoping supports retrofit projects in moving forward. The session provides a practical look at how to approach an ice rink retrofit, from essential data gathering, and facility and energy assessments through to identifying funding opportunities.

What you Gain:

  • Join an in-person workshop to learn about key steps involved in planning an ice rink retrofit and discover common energy efficiency opportunities for rink and arena facilities
  • Explore funding pathways to successfully position projects for future funding from retrofit and energy programs in Saskatchewan
  • Get a follow up site visit and energy study completed by an expert at no cost through the CRIS to help guide your team to reduce risk, improve decision-making, and control costs for your project
