Through the Alberta Low Carbon Cohort, participating communities received tailored support to help move low-carbon infrastructure projects from early planning stages toward implementation.
By connecting local governments with technical expertise, resources, and opportunities for peer learning, the program helped communities strengthen their climate action efforts and prepare for future investment opportunities.
The first Alberta-specific program from the CRIS, the cohort fostered collaboration and relationship-building across the province. The CRIS partnered with Alberta Municipalities' Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) team to bring together municipalities, First Nations, non-profit organizations, and infrastructure experts, creating a network to address local priorities and challenges on the ground.
Over the program, climate ready options reports were developed for over 5 types of local facilities in 10 Albertan communities. To compliment their reports, participants attended 3 expert-led webinars that walked them through pathways to reduce their emissions, ways to interpret and leverage energy audits, and relevant funding sources to move their projects forward.
